Arizona (1-5, 0-3 V) lost to Pittsburgh 20-32, at home, in Week 7. QB Kevin Kolb threw two touchdown passes, his first in three games, and finished with 272 yards and two touchdowns. WR Larry Fitzgerald caught four passes for 78 yards, while RB Beanie Wells had 12 carries for 42 yards. The Cards defense gave up 445 total yards to the Steelers.
The Arizona Cardinals expect to lose running back Beanie Wells for at least a week, and possibly two, with a bone bruise in his right knee, a team source said Monday. Backup Alfonso Smith took over for Wells and carried just five times for 17 yards, but he did score a touchdown. The Cardinals, who have been thin at running back this season, could work out free agents this week. Joe Flacco was horrible in his last game and hasn't exactly been great all season long. The Cardinals young cornerbacks are getting better and we expect to see more Sam Acho and O'Brien Schofield at outside linebacker in place of ineffective veterans Joey Porter and Clark Haggans. The rest of the defense has played pretty well.
Baltimore (4-2, 3-0 H) lost to Jacksonville 7-12, on the road, in Week 7. QB Joe Flacco completed 21 of 38 passes for 137 yards as the Ravens finished with 146 total yards, the fewest yards the Jaguars have allowed since 2004. Baltimore got a first down on its 28th play of the game when Rice broke off a 12-yard run. That was only the second play longer than 10 yards for the Ravens. Rice had eight carries for 28 yards and WR Anquan Boldin made four catches for 40 yards with a touchdown.
Baltimore’s offense and defense has to rebound this week, which is likely against a Cards team with running back issues. The Jaguars dominated the Ravens, allowing 146 yards, forcing nine three-and-outs, recording three sacks and taking advantage of two turnovers. “No excuses. It has to be a lot better. Not even close to the way we’re capable of performing on offense,” he said. “Everybody realizes that. We have to do a better job, starting with me. I got to do a better job of making some decisions. We all have to do a better job of coaching, playing, executing, all those different things.” The offseason addition of linemen Bryant McKinnie and Andre Gurode, along with fullback Vonta Leach and wide receiver Lee Evans, was supposed to improve an attack that sputtered at times last season. After the Ravens scored 35 in the opener against Pittsburgh and dropped 37 points on the St. Louis Rams, there was optimism that Baltimore had finally become a complete team. Sure the line is a work in progress, and Evans has been missing for weeks with a sprained ankle. But there is no excuse for a performance that awful. Get $50 in Free NFL Picks here.
