Miami (0-6, 0-3 V) lost to Denver 15-18 (OT), at home, in Week 7. QB Matt Moore completed 22 of 33 passes for 197 yards with a touchdown, while RB Daniel Thomas had 19 carries for 53 yards. WR Brandon Marshall made six catches for 61 yards. The Dolphins lost for the 12th time in their past 13 home games.
To preserve their sanity and pride, the Dolphins must relearn how to win. The crux of the problem has been at quarterback. Miami has been through 16 and counting since Dan Marino retired. The Dolphins are desperate for a star, and Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, Cam Newton, Josh Freeman and Ryan have confirmed what Tom Brady has demonstrated all these years — today’s NFL revolves around the quarterback position. For further proof, look at the Colts — utterly lost without Peyton Manning, and going head-to-head against Miami for Luck. Based on the slapstick football game we saw Sunday, the Dolphins are worse than we thought, and on a path similar to the ones that ended with a 4-12 record in 2004 and a 1-15 record in 2007. This team will be running around in circles.
New York (4-2, 2-1 H) was on their bye week in Week 7. In Week 6 they got a 27-24, home victory, over the Buffalo Bills. QB Eli Manning completed 21 of 32 for 292 yards and no interceptions against the ballhawking Bills, who came in with 12 interceptions and a league-best plus-11 on turnovers. RB Ahmad Bradshaw ran for season-high 104 yards and a career-best three touchdowns. WR Hakeem Nicks made four catches for 96 yards. DE Justin Tuck said after the game he intended to play after the bye week. He has missed three straight games with neck and groin injuries.
The New York Giants are nearing full strength as coach Tom Coughlin said several of his key players will practice on Wednesday. Defensive end Justin Tuck (groin/neck), running back Brandon Jacobs (knee), rookie cornerback Prince Amukamara (foot) and wide receiver Ramses Barden (ankle) are among several injured Giants who will practice, according to Coughlin. Tuck has missed the Giants' past three games and played in just two of the team's first six due to lingering neck and groin injuries. He's recorded six tackles and 1.5 sacks so far in 2011. By and large, the Giants' defense has held its own despite injuries to key players. The Giants have been very successful at pressuring the quarterback. Both Pierre-Paul (7.5 sacks) and Umenyiora (5 sacks) rank in the top 10 in the NFL in sacks. As a team, the Giants are tied for the NFL lead with 21 sacks. If he's healthy and playing to his standards, Tuck should make it more difficult for Giants opponents to protect the passer. Get $50 in Free NFL Picks here.
