The Niners (3-3) lost in Houston 21-24 in Week 7 and now sit second in the NFC West. QB Shaun Hill made six of 11 passes for 45 yards before he was replaced by backup QB Alex Smith, who made 15 of 22 passes for 206 yards with three TD passes and one interception for a 118.6 passer rating. Smith will likely get the start Sunday. RB Frank Gore had 13 carries for 32 yards, while WR Vernon Davis made seven catches for 93 yards with three TD’s. Rookie WR Michael Crabtree made five catches for 56 yards in his debut.  The Niners have turned to Alex Smith and given him the starting quarterback job , but does that mean the team will throw the ball more? Offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye has relied on a power running game for much of the season, but against the Colts' explosive offensive attack, he may need to let Smith air it out more than usual. When Alex Smith has a 95-plus passer rating, the 49ers are 5-0. The Niners offense is ranked 29th overall, while on defense they are best against the rush, but struggle with a 20th ranked pass defense.  The Niners average 22.2ppg and give up 20.3ppg, while they average 21.7ppg on the road and allow 22.3ppg. They are 4-1-1 ATS and 3-3 over/under.

The Colts (6-0) won in St.Louis 42-6 in Week 7 and still sit atop the AFC South. QB Peyton Manning made 23 of 34 passes for 235 yards with three TD passes; overall he’s thrown for 1,880 yards with 15 TD passes and four interceptions for a 114.5 passer rating. RB Joseph Addai had 20 catches for 64 yards with a TD, while RB Chad Simpson pound in a TD run. WR Reggie Wayne made seven catches for 83 yards with a TD, while WR Austin Collie added a TD. The Colts TE Dallas Clark is quietly having an outstanding season. He is one of Peyton Manning's favorite targets and he already has 38 catches. In fact, he is just behind Houston's TE Owen Daniels in most receiving categories for tight ends -- not a positive sign for the Niners, since Daniels just torched them for 123 yards and a touchdown. The Colts first ranked passing game will be up against the Niners 20th ranked pass defense. They won’t have to worry about their 27th ranked running game against the Niners sixth ranked rush defense. When you have Manning throwing the ball, he makes plays happen. The Colts put up the second most points per-game (29.8) in the NFL, while allowing the second least (12.8) . The Colts average 29.8ppg and give up 12.8ppg, while averaging 24ppg at home and allow 14.5ppg. They are 5-1 ATS and 3-3 over/under.
