The Texans (4-2) were on their BYE Week, in Week 7, after beating KC 35-31, at home in Week 6. The Texans sit tied for second in the AFC South. Against the Chiefs, QB Matt Schaub made 25 of 33 passes for 305 yards with two TD’s. RB Arian Foster had 18 carries for 71 yards with two TD’s, while Derrick Ward ran in a 38 yarder for a TD. WR Andre Johnson made eight catches for 138 yards with a TD, while Joel Dreessen added TD. Houston has the offensive capability to push the Colts off their perch as AFC South champions. While Houston has struggled at times since then, it has also shown great resilience to rally from 17 down to win at Washington and 10 down to knock off KC. QB Matt Schaub led the NFL in passing last season, but has had trouble behind an offensive line which has allowed 16 sacks. The Colts’ pass rush is faster at home and won’t give Schaub much time when he drops back. The Texans offense is ranked fourth best overall (379ypg) with an 11th ranked pass game (239ypg) and the NFL’s fifth best running game (140ypg). They score the sixth most points per-game (25.5ppg). Arian Foster leads the Texans offense with seven TD’s. They have the NFL’s worst overall defense (410ypg), with the NFL’s worst ranked pass rush (306ypg) and a 13th ranked rush defense (104ypg). The Texans give up the third most amount of points per-game (27.8ppg).
The Colts (4-2) were also on their BYE Week after winning in Washington 27-24, in Week 6. The Colts sit tied for second in the AFC South. Against the Redskins, QB Peyton Manning made 25 of 38 passes for 307 yards with two TD’s. RB Joseph Addai had 17 carries for 128 yards with a TD, while Pierre Garcon made four catches for 103 yards with a TD and Austin Collie also added a TD. The Colts have ruled out four players for Monday night's game. Receiver Austin Collie and defensive tackle Antonio Johnson are the newest additions to the list, while Safety Bob Sanders and linebacker Kavell Conner will sit out again, too. The Colts defenders will see a lot of film on RB Arian Foster before this game. They haven’t forgotten his franchise-record 231 rushing yards in the opener. They have seen decent backs before who make decisive cuts behind zone-blocking schemes. Neutralize Arian Foster to some extent and the Colts should be able to put enough points against a Texans defense which is awful. The Colts’ Peyton Manning must drive his offense without two of its best weapons in injured TE Dallas Clark and WR Austin Collie. The situation would seem bleak for most other teams. But the hunch is the Colts will remind a national audience there’s still enough capable playmakers for Manning to utilize to get the job done. Manning is the NFL leader in passer rating at 103.4. Expect him to shine on the big stage again. The Colts offense is ranked second best overall (409ypg) with the second best ranked pass game (314ypg) and a 25th ranked running game (94ypg). They score the third highest amount of points per-game (27.2ppg). On defense they are ranked 21st overall (344ypg),with a 12th ranked pass rush (206ypg) and a 26th ranked rush defense (137ypg). The Colts give up the 15th most amount of points per-game (20.8ppg).
