Minnesota Vikings vs New England Patriots 2010 NFL Picks, Predictions & Odds

by Matt Foust on Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Minnesota Vikings vs New England Patriots 2010 NFL Picks, 2010 NFL Predictions & 2010 NFL Odds: The surging Patriots will host the Minnesota Vikings this afternoon for an AFC East versus NFC North battle at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Kickoff in today's game is slated for 4:15pm ET on FOX. 2010 NFL Picks, Predictions & Odds at BetUS.com have New England listed as a -5.5 against the spread home favorite and the game total set at 43.5.

The word is still out on which Vikings quarterback will start today's game against New England, but all Minnesota Vikings vs New England Patriots 2010 NFL Picks, Predictions & Oddssigns point to it being Brett Favre. Favre has declared his balky ankle ready and he has indicated that he wants to be out on the field today.

Head Coach Brad Childress, who drew a great deal of criticism this week for the manner in which he handled the Packers/Vikings post game presser, has been non-committal. It would appear that Childress, whose Vikings are 2-4 on the season, has soured on Favre after the future Hall of Famer spoiled another game with several ill-advised throws. However, if he were to bench Favre, he may have a mutiny on his hands if he doesn't already.

That is not to suggest that Favre's teammates are pleased with his play through six games, but they, like most everyone else, can figure out that pouring gasoline on a fire does not usually put it out.

Favre may be down to his last chance, though, one way or another. The NFC North is still much in play for Minnesota, despite its rough start, and if the veteran signal caller cannot perform at an acceptable level anymore, then Tavaris Jackson may be the better option. Yes, the passing game would take a hit, but the turnovers would, most likley, drop.

For all his gambling, Favre still gives the Vikings the best opportunity to win today against a New England team that is 5-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 at Gillette Stadium.

Minnesota's pass rush has been ineffective this season and does not figure to harrass Tom Brady a great deal today. If the Patriots offense is allowed to work freely the majority of the afternoon, than the Vikings will need some big plays in order to pull off the upset. Favre has proven time and again that he can put the bad throws behind him and turn in a game winning performance.

NFL Picks Betting Trend: New England is 9-1 straight up but just 1-9 against the spread in its last 10 games as a home favorite with a total between 41.5 and 44.
