After taking a glance at Sportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends ” for NFL Week 9, it is amazing that only 9% of the early NFL Picks are backing the defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts (+5.5) in this matchup for NFL Week 9.
The fact that the Indianapolis Colts are underdogs at home is noteworthy considering they have a 13 game winning streak at the RCA Dome. Even more extraordinary is the fact that the last time they were getting points at home was over eight years ago. Then again they will be hosting quite arguably the most dominant offense ever seen in the NFL.
Behind a lethal passing game, the New England Patriots are putting up unprecedented amount of points on a weekly basis with no signs of slowing down. With eight games under their belt, the 8-0 Patriots are averaging over 41 points per game and they are defeating their opponents by 25.5 points. Their “closest” game was a 17 point victory over Cleveland. Not surprisingly, with an 8-0 record ATS, the New England Patriots have been bettors best friend this season. They are lambasting opponents at such a ridiculous rate that Bill Belichick is getting plenty of criticism for running up the score. One has to wonder if Belichick isn’t trying to punish all of his opponents for all the cheating allegations from earlier in the season. With all of the points the Patriots are scoring, it isn’t surprising that the OVER is 7-1 in their games this season. Given the fact that the first and third highest scoring offenses will take the field, it isn’t surprising that 85% of the early bettors prefer the OVER (56.5).
The Colts and Patriots do have very thrifty defenses allowing just 14.6 and 15.9 points respectively so the OVER isn’t a ‘no brainer’ by any means. Additionally, for whatever reason, the Patriots more often than not cover the UNDER this time of year. Since 2005 the UNDER is 7-1 during the month of November in Patriots games.
“Without a doubt, this is the biggest game of the year,” stated Sportsbook.com spokesman Dave Staley. “It is almost like a Super Bowl in November. We have two undefeated teams that are rolling over each other. What makes this game even more interesting from our stand point is that we are offering over 50 props for this game alone!”
