NFL Point Spreads Week 9: Now past the midway point of the 2011 NFL season, the American Football Conference’s West Division is tighter than it has ever been. With the (4-3) San Diego Chargers no longer looking like the team certain to win the Division every year, Norv Turner & Co. find themselves in a dogfight with the (4-3) Oakland Raiders and the (4-3) Kansas City Chiefs.
Luckily, all three of these teams will be in action in week 9, each looking to gain an advantage over the other. Unfortunately for the Chargers, losing on Monday Night to the Chiefs could be the beginning of the end of an era in America’s Finest City for Turner and Philip Rivers.
If you look at the Chargers schedule, you can immediately understand why things could get very testy in SoCal. This week, the San Diego Chargers will be at home, but will have very little to feel good about as the undefeated, defending champion (7-0) Green Bay Packers come to town. Now, even though the NFL Point Spreads for that game have yet to be released, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to hypothesize that the Bolts will be the underdogs in that game. After losing to the Packers, the Chargers will take on a team that absolutely owned them last season: the Silver and Black.
However, by this time, Carson Palmer would have had 4 weeks to really learn and practice the offense. So, don’t expect the Raiders to look like the same team that was defeated by KC a couple of weeks ago. But it doesn’t get any easier after that.
San Diego will then go into Soldier Field in the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bears, before finally returning home to host Denver in Week 12. Now, we’re talking about the possibility of the Chargers welcome the Broncos with a 5-game skid on their hands and a 4-6 record overall. Like I said, this could be the beginning of the end for the Chargers reign in the AFC West, Turner and his coaching staff, as well as Rivers…
