In a surprising turn of events this weekend’s NFL week 10 matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers actually has implications for first place in the AFC North. Cleveland comes into this game riding its first three-game winning streak since 2001 and sits only one game behind the Steelers with a 5-3 SU mark. The Browns have certainly padded their backers bankrolls as well going 6-2 ATS. A lot of this years success can be attributed to the play of second year QB, Derek Anderson. In their first meeting this season Pittsburgh dominated in a 34-7 victory but that was with Charlie Frye as the starting QB. Immediately thereafter, Anderson took over and has led to Browns to a 5-2 record as the starter. He has had help though as Cleveland has two of the league's top-10 receivers in Braylon Edwards and tight end Kellen Winslow, the Browns rank fourth in scoring, averaging 27.8 points per game. Sportsbook.com has the Pittsburgh Steelers as -9.5 point favorites.
The Steelers have dominated the rivalry with Cleveland as the earlier victory this year was their eighth straight and 14th of the last 15 times they have met. The Steelers sport the league's top defense, yielding only 237 yards per game. The Steelers have been unbeatable at home his season as it has won their four games by an average of 24 points. That was never more evident than this past Monday when they pasted the Baltimore Ravens 38-7. The Steelers are a perfect 4-0 SU and ATS overall and are an even better 5-0 SU and ATS in the second of back to back home games. A victory over Cleveland on Sunday will all be seal first place as they will take what will in essence be a three game lead in their division when you include the tiebreaker.
Before jumping all over the Pittsburgh bandwagon, consider that Cleveland is 7-0 ATS after allowing 30 points or more in their last game over the last 2 seasons as well as 8-1 ATS after a playing a game where 50 total points or more were scored. However, the Browns have not been competitive in this series recently losing by double digits the last three times these teams have met. Pittsburgh has opened as a 9 ½ point favorite in this one, but will they cover that high number?
