Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cincinnati Bengals 2010 NFL Picks, 2010 NFL Odds & 2010 NFL Predictions: It may already be too late, but the Cincinnati Bengals will make a last ditch effort to save their season tonight as they take on AFC North rival Pittsburgh in the Steel City. This evening's divisional tilt is scheduled to kickoff at 8:30pm ET on ESPN's Monday Night Football. 2010 NFL Picks, Odds & Predictions at Sportsbook.com have the Steelers listed as a -6 against the spread home favorite; the Over/Under is set at 41.
What a difference a year makes. Last season the Bengals were 5-2 headed into week nine and had already recorded wins over division foes Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Baltimore. The 2010 version of Cincinnati is an unimpressive 2-5 and dead last in the AFC North standings.
The Bengals made their bones last year with a stout defense and a strong ground game, but those two things have been missing this season. Cincinnati , which beat the Steelers twice in 2009, is giving up 342 yards and 23.3 points per game this year compared to the 301.4 yards and 18.2 points it allowed in last year's division winning campaign. As for the rushing attack, it has produced an average of 27 fewer yards per contest than it did a season ago.
The unexpected decline in those two areas does not bode well for the Queen City Kitties this evening as they attempt to claw their way out of Heinz Field with a win over a Steelers squad hungry for revenge.
Pittsburgh, which ranks fourth in the league in yards per game allowed (302) and first in points per game allowed (14.2), will also be looking to keep pace with the 6-2 Ravens when they take the field tonight. Mike Tomlin's troops fell 20-10 to New Orleans last Sunday at the Superdome, meaning they need a win to stay even with Baltimore.
The Steelers are 2-1 at Heinz Field this year (Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland), where they are giving up an average of just 12 points per game. Cincinnati, which has scored at least 20 or more points in five of its seven games this season, does not figure to be the first team to crest the 20 point mark at Pittsburgh. The Bengals have scored a combined 38 points in their last trips to the Steel City and nothing about this year's team would portend an offensive outburst this evening.
NFL Picks Betting Trend: The Steelers are 8-2 against the spread and 9-1 straight up in their last 10 games as a home favorite with a spread between 4 and 7.5 and a total between 37 and 41.
Pittsburgh Steelers -6 (-110), Over 41 (-110), -250 (Moneyline)
Cincinnati Bengals +6 (-110), Under 41 (-110), +210 (Moneyline)
