The Texans (4-4) (2-1 V) lost to San Diego 23-29, at home, in Week 9 and are tied for third in the AFC South. QB Matt Schaub made 21 of 32 passes for 266 yards with an interception. RB Arian Foster had 27 carries for 127 yards with two TD’s, while WR Andre Johnson made four catches for 70 yards. Their offense made only 2 of 6 from the red zone, but their defense held the Chargers high powered pass game to 290 yards. The Texans have dropped two straight and they've never been three games over .500 in the history of the franchise; why would next Sunday all of a sudden be the breakthrough? The big question each week is "Which Texans team will show up?" The Texans are an inconsistent, maddeningly average team that can't get out of their own way enough to be anything more than that. They're not good enough to beat really good teams, they're not bad enough to lose to the few really bad teams (the Dallas loss notwithstanding). Defensively, the Jags continue to trot out Amobi Okoye, Kareem Jackson, Eugene Wilson, and a bunch of other guys who have been scorched the same way, week after week. Frank Bush will have his defense sit in the same coverages with the same amount of blitz-free inertia and by the end of the game Mike Sims-Walker and David Garrard will be the studs of the game. The Texans offense is ranked sixth best overall (370ypg) with a 12th ranked pass game (233ypg) and the NFL’s seventh best running game (136ypg). They score the 11th most points per-game (24.1ppg). Arian Foster leads the Texans offense with 10 TD’s. The Texans will be up against the Jags 28th ranked defense (386ypg), their 28th ranked pass rush (267ypg) and their 22nd ranked rush defense (119ypg). The Jags defense gives up the second most points per-game (28.2ppg).

The Jaguars (4-4) (2-2 H) were on a BYE Week, in Week 9, after winning in Dallas 35-17, in Week 8. The Jags currently sit tied for last in the AFC South. Against Dallas, QB David Garrard made 17 of 21 passes for 260 yards with four TD’s. RB Maurice Jones-Drew had 27 carries for 135 yards, while WR Mike Sims-Walker made eight catches for 153 yards with a TD. TE Marcedes Lewis added two TD’s and Mike Thomas added one. Their defense pulled in four interceptions and had two sacks. Despite their record, they need to find their defense, and fast. The Jaguars had one of the NFL's most consistent defenses between 2004 and 2007, stuffing running backs, harassing quarterbacks and holding opponents to 17 points or less in 36 of 64 games. With an overrated personnel, badly missing on free agents and draft picks, Coach Del Rio vowed to return the defense to where it was a few years ago. The Jaguars overhauled their defense in 2009, then tweaked it again this offseason after finishing with a franchise-low 14 sacks. With newcomers at nearly every position, the Jaguars have given up at least 26 points in eight games and are on pace to set franchise records in touchdowns, points and yards allowed. Nonetheless, Del Rio believes the defense is on the verge of playing better, just not quite ready to be like it was before. The Jaguars are ranked 23rd overall on offense (310ypg) with a 28th ranked pass game (181ypg) and the NFL’s eighth best ranked ground game (129ypg). TE Marcedes Lewis leads the Jags offense with seven TD’s. The Jags will be up against the Texans worst overall defense (399ypg), the NFL’s worst ranked pass rush (298ypg) and their 11th ranked rush defense (101ypg). The Texans give up the third most amount of points per-game (28.2ppg).
