P
ittsburgh (6-3, 2-2 V) lost to the Baltimore Ravens 20-23, on the road, in Week 9. QB Ben Roethlisberger finished with 330 yards passing to become the first Pittsburgh quarterback to top 300 in three consecutive games. RB Rashard Mendenhall had 13 carries for 52 yards with a touchdown, while WR Antonio Brown made five catches for 109 yards. The Steelers appeared to be in control after rallying from a 10-point deficit to take a 20-16 lead with less than five minutes to go, but their defense couldn’t stop Joe Flacco.
In their three game win span, Ben Roethlisberger is 82-of-126 for 1,056 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. He is 7-1 in games at Paul Brown Stadium, 11-4 against the Bengals and 30-9 against the AFC North. WR Antonio Brown has two 100-yard games in the past three games (21 receptions, 278 yards, one touchdown). RB Rashard Mendenhall is averaging 3.9 yards per carry (120 carries, 473 yards, four touchdowns). He had 40 carries for 165 yards and a touchdown in the two games against the Bengals last year. LB James Harrison returned last week after missing four games with a cracked right orbital bone and had nine tackles with three sacks. He has 12 games over his eight-year career with two sacks, and four games with at least three. He has five sacks against the Bengals, and has recorded one in three of the last four games. Offense is ninth (19th rushing, eighth passing); Defense is third (sixth rushing, third passing). Get $50 in Free NFL Picks here.
Cincinnati (6-2, 2-1 H) rallied from a 10-point deficit and beat the Tennessee Titans 24-17, on the road, in Week 9 for their fifth straight victory. QB Andy Dalton threw for three touchdowns and 217 yards. They took over after halftime, outgaining Tennessee 97-8 in total offense in the third quarter. They also improved to 4-1 on the road with the rookie quarterback leading the Bengals to 17 unanswered points as he tossed TD passes to three different receivers.
This will be a big test for the Bengals offensive line and for Andy Dalton when it comes to keeping the defensive pressure at bay. Dalton has been sacked less times than about 75 percent of the starting quarterbacks in the NFL. He's only been sacked 12 times and only eight quarterbacks have been sacked less times and of those eight, only three have started every game this season. Obviously, this is a statistic that needs to be celebrated. When a rookie quarterback gets pressured, even one that seems as calm and cool as Andy Dalton is, they tend to make poor decisions. Only being sacked 12 times is a testament to the offensive line's play so far this season. Dalton has done an excellent job at finding the open man quickly and getting the ball out of his hands before the defense has a chance to get to him. Obviously, offensive coordinator Jay Gruden deserves some credit too. He's done a good job at calling plays that allow Dalton to get rid of the ball quickly instead of ones that make him hold on to the ball for extended periods of time. The Pittsburgh Steelers have the third-ranked defense in the NFL and sacked opposing quarterbacks 23 times. Hopefully Dalton, Gruden and the offensive line can keep the Steelers pass rush at bay throughout the game but Dalton will need to continue to make quick decisions and Gruden may call more three-step drop pass plays than usual to keep his quarterback safe. Offense is 22nd (21st rushing, 21st passing); Defense is fourth (second rushing, 10th passing).
