The big bad Pittsburgh Steelers play host to the struggling Kansas City Chiefs, Monday Nov 12th, for some Monday Night Football as the Steelers try to catch AFC North leading Baltimore. The Steelers will be looking for a fourth straight win, while the Chiefs try to snap a five game skid. Since the Chiefs are riding a five game winning drought, it’s easy to see why the NFL sportsbooks have the Steelers as -12.5 point home favorites over the Chiefs with the over/under set at 42.5 points. We recommend you check out the latest NFL Point Spreads heading into the tenth MNF of the 2012 NFL season.
Kansas City (1-7, 1-3 V) lost to the San Diego Chargers 13-31, on the road, on Thursday Night Football. QB Matt Cassel completed 19 of 29 yards, while RB Jamaal Charles had 12 carries for a low 39 yards. The Chiefs, who lost their fifth straight, committed four turnovers to run their NFL-high mark to a staggering 29, which have led to 104 points.
Javier Arenas is your new starting cornerback. Defensive co-ordinator Romeo Crennel confirmed it as the Chiefs depth chart came out and Arenas is listed as the top cornerback opposite Flowers. Brady Quinn remains the No. 1 quarterback, but that doesn’t mean he’ll start. He’s yet to be cleared for practice.
For Shaun Smith, it’s good to be back. Smith is back with the Chiefs and should be familiar with the defense. Playing on Monday seems really quick for someone to be getting on the field but Smith does know the defense, and has been around Romeo for a while. I suppose it wouldn’t be a shock of Smith played against the Steelers.
Pittsburgh (5-3, 3-0 H) rallied past the New York Giants 24-20, on the road, in Week 9. QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 21 of 30 passes for 216 yards with two touchdown passes. RB Isaac Redman ran for 147 yards and the winning touchdown with 4:02 remaining. The Steelers had to overcome some uncharacteristic sloppiness by dominating the second half. They had the fewest giveaways in the NFL entering the game, but they were neglectful with the ball and in pass coverage.
In this pass-happy era a lot of people think that running the football doesn’t matter, but the Steelers are proving that adage wrong. They have had a lot of injuries at RB, but over the past few weeks they have made a commitment to offensive balance.
Kansas City has given up a lot of yards on the ground and its gap integrity is not consistent. Pittsburgh’s O-line seems to be getting better every week and it has an underrated lead blocker in FB Will Johnson.
