The Vikings might have won the first Packers game had Harvin not missed the second half because of his ribs. Instead, Green Bay held on to win 33-27 on Oct. 23 at the Metrodome. Harvin can return kicks and play wide receiver and running back. Frazier describes him as a big playmaker who creates tremendous problems for defenses. "He plays a lot of different positions, and everywhere he goes, the defense has to account for him," Frazier said. "If he's returning kickoffs, it changes how people cover kicks. He's a difference-maker." He has only nine returns for 280 yards — including a 103-yard touchdown return on the opening kickoff of the season in San Diego. However, he has had a dramatic increase in runs, whether lined up as a running back or receiver. Through eight games, he already has a career high in carries (20) and rushing yards (185). Green Bay (8-0, 3-0 H) held on through a wild finish to beat the banged-up San Diego Chargers 45-38, on the road, in Week 9. QB Aaron Rodgers completed 21 of 26 passes for 247 yards and ran his NFL-leading total to 24 TD throws. He had scoring passes of 5 yards to Jermichael Finley, 16 to Jordy Nelson, 21 to James Jones and 4 to Greg Jennings.
The Packers’ offense has so many weapons to choose from, QB Aaron Rodgers could fire anyone’s way at any time, or perhaps at the most crucial time, regardless of a receiver’s contributions that day. Back in Week 5 in Atlanta, Rodgers set the franchise record by completing passes to 12 different receivers in one game. Outside linebacker Clay Matthews (knee) returned to practice on Friday after sitting out on Thursday and was a limited participant. The rest of Green Bay’s injury report remained unchanged.
