New York Jets vs Denver Broncos Spread Thursday Night Football Game 2011: (5-4) New York Jets [-4.5] head coach Rex Ryan never holds back when expressing his opinions. Another thing Ryan is notorious for is for the way he disguises blitz packages and pressures opposing quarterbacks. As the Jets prepare to take on Tim Tebow and the one-dimensional (4-5) Denver Broncos [+4.5], you would think those aforementioned qualities would end up in a PR disaster the moment Rex stood in front of a microphone.
However — and I don’t know if the heat he caught this week for a video that shows him cursing at a kid in the stands has anything to do with — Ryan is measuring his words and is being ominously nice. Asked about his opinion on Tebow’s game, which most people have ripped the Broncos for even having him as a starter (i.e. the Detroit Lions), Ryan seemed awfully merciful with a guy that completed 2 passes all game last week.
“You can go back and when people ask me about him, I thought he was a great competitor and he is a winner, and that's what he’s showing right now,” Ryan said. “Are there prettier passers than him? Yeah, absolutely. But again, (we) just (have to) try to find a way to beat him.”
It’s no surprise that the Broncos have been listed as the betting favorites for this game. Just think about the combination: a team that can only run the ball cause their QB can’t pass, against a team that blitzes on every down. The OVER/UNDER for this New York Jets vs Denver Broncos Spread Thursday Night Football Game 2011 is set at a combined total of 40½ points scored.
I guess Ryan can appreciate what Denver is doing offensively, considering he loves to “Ground and Pound” the rock. I think that running the ball 55 times and throwing it just 8 in a game might be a bit much even for Ryan’s standards. It should be fun to watch! I believe Tebow might surprise a lot of people if put against a wall…
