NFL Picks Week 11: New York Giants at Detroit Lions

by Alexander Banks on Sunday, November 18th, 2007

A key game in the NFC playoff race takes place on Sunday in Detroit as the Lions host the New York Giants.  Both teams are 6-3 and looking like solid playoff contenders, but both are coming off bad losses last week.  The Giants were routed by the Dallas Cowboys for the second time this season while Detroit lost at Arizona. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Giants on the Road.

New York Giants (6-3) at Detroit Lions (6-3)

The game on Sunday is a crucial one for both teams, especially Detroit which could easily see their 6-3 record slip to 6-5 with a loss since they face division leading Green Bay next week.  Detroit has been getting good play this season out of quarterback Jon Kitna who has a career-best passer rating of 92.9 this season. "I love throwing – I'd do it on every play if I could – but it is brutal on our offensive linemen," Kitna said. "They don't get the chance to fire out and punish guys like they do on running plays. We need to be able to do both." Staying upright could be the problem for Kitna this week as he faces a Giants defense that has recorded the most sacks (32) in the league this season.  The Lions have allowed the most sacks in the league with 37.

The game is also critical to the Giants who have had a tendency to collapse down the stretch.  In the last four seasons the Giants have gone 8-24 in the second half of the year. The Lions have won both meetings against the Giants in the last seven years, both at Giants Stadium.
