Chicago Bears vs Miami Dolphins 2010 NFL Picks, 2010 NFL Odds & 2010 NFL Predictions: The NFL Network brings football fans another Thursday night clash this week as the NFC North leading Chicago Bears head south to take on the AFC East's Miami Dolphins. This evening's game is scheduled to kickoff at 8:20pm ET at Sun Life Stadium. 2010 NFL Picks, Odds & Predictions at online bookmaker BetUS.com have the Dolphins listed as a -1.5 against the spread home favorite; the Over/Under is presently set at 40.
The Bears come into tonight's game with a 6-3 record after scoring back-to-back wins over the Bills
and Vikings. Prior to those two victories, Chicago had lost three of four, losing to the Giants, Seahawks, and Redskins by an average of 6.7 points per game.
The reason for the recent turnaround is not difficult to ascertain as a quick look at Jay Cutler's numbers serve as an easy guidepost in Chicago's case.
In Cutler's three starts before the Bears two game win streak, he posted a combined passer rating of 54.8 after throwing for one touchdown and five interceptions. In his last two outings Cutler has performed much better, tossing five touchdowns to two interceptions in route to a 92.5 quarterback rating.
Given his inconsistent nature, it is difficult to calculate what Cutler might do against the Dolphins this evening, but in three road starts this season he has thrown five touchdowns and just one interception (91.7 passer rating).
Chicago's defense has been bearish away from home this year too, giving up 15.5 points and 317.5 yards per game in helping the team to a 3-1 road record.
The Dolphins, which stand at 5-4 and two games back of the Patriots and Jets in the AFC East, procured their first home victory of the season last weekend, beating the Tennessee Titans 29-17 at Sun Life Stadium.
Chad Pennington, who got the start over Chad Henne, threw just two passes before suffering a season ending shoulder injury. Henne relieved his fallen teammate and played well (19-of-28, 240 yards, one touchdown, one interception) before sustaining an injury of his own (knee). Third stringer Tyler Thigpen, who will get the start in tonight's game, completed 4-of-6 passes for 64 yards and a touchdown filling in for Henne.
Thigpen started 14 games for the Chiefs in 2008 when he threw for 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His last start came in December of 2008 in a 16-6 Kansas City loss to the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium; Thigpen completed 19-of-36 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown in that game.
