Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Giants Spread Sunday Night Football Game 2011: Ironically, Vince Young was the first player to utter the words “Dream Team” shortly after signing with the (3-6) Philadelphia Eagles [+5.5] this offseason. With Philly needing to win out to have any chances of making it to the playoffs, Young gets his first start of the season.
“We’re just trying to keep it simple for him and not put too much pressure on [Vince Young]” DeSean Jackson said. “But he’s a good quarterback and with the game he played against the Giants last year he was able to beat them. So we just really want him to go out there and give us a chance to win.”
MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is the place where two NFC East rivals will meet when the Eagles visit the NFL Point Spreads favorite (6-3) New York Giants [-5.5]. This game, which kicks off tonight at 8:20 PM on NBC, has an OVER/UNDER is set at a total 45.5.
Philadelphia comes into this matchup with consecutive loses to Chicago and Arizona. Last week, Michael Vick broke two ribs in an upset loss to the Cardinals, 21-17. Arizona quarterback John Skelton capped off an improbable comeback with a 5-yard pass that sank Philly’s chances.
Playing hurt all game long, Vick finished with a quarterback rating of 32.5, competing 16 of 32 passes for 132 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. Vick will sit out tonight’s game, as he nurses two broken lower ribs. Also out for Philly will be wide receiver, Jeremy Maclin. The former 2-time All American will sit this one out due to shoulder and ankle injuries.
For the Giants, this game is also a must win when you look at the remainder of their 2011-12 schedule. Coming off a disappointing loss at the Niners last week will not making things easier, as Dallas is now just one game behind first place in the NFC East. After taking on the Eagles tonight, the G-Men will still face: the Cowboys (twice), Green Bay, New Orleans and the Jets.
“I'm very disappointed,” said Giants coach Tom Coughlin after last week’s 20-27 loss. “I thought we were in perfect control. I thought we would get there, score and send it into overtime and win it in overtime. We've done well in those situations and I expected to do well again.”
It’s impossible not to pick the Giants in this one. With Young making his first start as an Eagle, on the road, in primetime, I don’t see anything good coming out of this. New York should win this game by a touchdown or more. Young is sure to struggle against the Giants front-four.
