No matter the opposition or quarterback, Detroit has typically found a way to keep its games close this season. Last 
weekend was no different as the Lions took on the winless Bills in Buffalo with veteran Shaun Hill under center in place of the ailing Matthew Stafford (shoulder). The Lions found a way to lose but also cover the spread, both of which they have done with great frequency this season.
Jim Schwartz club will attempt to reverse one of those trends while maintaining the other today in Dallas. Detroit, which is 2-7 straight up and 7-2 against the number, will, again, be without the oft-injured Stafford as it chases its first road victory of the season. The Lions have been competitive outside of the Motor City, but they have failed to seal the deal, going 0-5 and losing by an average of 6.2 points per game.
The Cowboys showed some old fire last Sunday in snapping a five game losing streak, beating the red hot Giants 33-20 in New York. Clearly the team had some fondness for former coach Wade Phillips, but Jerry Jones mid-season switch to offensive coordinator Jason Garrett obviously lit a fire in the under-performing group.
Dallas managed to minimize its mistakes in the win, committing just five penalties and one turnover while the Giants had eight and three respectively. If Garrett can get the team to continue curtailing those two things, he stands a good chance at removing the interim label from his title and the Cowboys can expect to record their fair share of wins in the season's second half.
Dallas has not won back-to-back games this year and, amazingly, it has not win a game at Cowboys Stadium, going 0-4 at the football palace while losing by an average of 9.5 points per game.
