Week 12 of the NFL Picks pits the Minnesota Vikings visiting the “Big Apple” in a matchup against the New York Giants. The Vikings are coming off a much needed 29-22 win over the Oakland Raiders that left them at 4-6 SU on the season. Even with the win however, they remained 5 games in back of the front running Green Bay Packers in the NFC North. Saddled with the loss of the rookie sensation, Adrian Peterson, the Vikings were hoping to get production out of the running game with x-starter Chester Taylor. Taylor didn’t disappoint as he rushed for 164 yards on 22 carries. The Minnesota defense has allowed an average of 288 yards per game and they didn’t do any better last week allowing an anemic Oakland club to pass for a net of 311 yards. They continued to be tough against the run allowing a total of 61 rushing yards on 27 rushes. Sportsbetting.com has Minnesota listed as a some large dog at +7.5 points.
The New York Giants kept pace with the Dallas Cowboys last week as they came up with a big win versus the Detroit Lions 16-10. The win put the Giants at 7-3 SU and two games in back of the front running Cowboys. Last weeks’ win was impressive considering that Detroit had yet to lose at home up to that point. Eli Manning had a good game as he completed a very efficient 28 of 39 attempts for 283 yards and a touchdown. He spread the ball around hitting 6 different receivers for 3 or more catches. Big RB Brandon Jacobs ran 11 times for 54 yards. The Giants defense could have trouble this week with Minnesota’s running game as linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka broke his left leg and could be out for the season. They were able to keep Detroit RB Kevin Jones to only 25 yards rushing however.
The large number this week might not be an issue as Giant head coach Tom Coughlin is 30-16 ATS when his team is listed as home favorite of 7 points or less so be weary if this number drops. For total players Coughlin is also 9-1 over against the NFC North. The Vikings have really struggled on the road as they are only 2-8 SU & 3-5-2 ATS their L8. Minnesota might have the advantage however as the underdog is 5-1 SU & ATS the L6 in this series.
The Giants face their next five games against opponents that are .500 or worse but will that matter this week?
