NFL Picks Week 13: New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins

by Alexander Banks on Thursday, November 29th, 2007

In what may be the only hope of the Miami Dolphins being an NFL Pick and winning a game this season could be in Week 13 when they host the equally pathetic New York Jets.  The Dolphins looking to avoid the first 0-16 season in NFL history come into this one at 0-11 SU after Monday’s brutal 3-0 loss to the Steelers.  If it’s any consolation, it was their third game in their last four where they lost by a total of 3 points.  Monday’s loss was more a factor of the weather than anything else as both the Dolphins and Steelers played in a ripped up Heinz field where no teams could get their offense going.  Rookie QB John Beck finished the game going 14-23 for 133 yard.  Even the return of Ricky Williams didn’t help as he rushed for trivial 15 yards on 6 carries.   The Dolphins are already without the services of starting RB Ronnie Brown.  Both teams have been an effort in futility this season and it shows in the line as SBGglobal.com has this game listed as a pickem.

After coming off a big win over the Pittsburgh Steelers the previous week, the New York Jets reverted to their old incompetent ways getting pasted by the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day 34-3.  It was the first time this season that the Dallas defense was able to hold any team without a touchdown this season.  The New York Jets offense was so inept that QB Kellen Clemens was sacked on each of their first two series and they didn't even cross midfield until their final drive of the second quarter.  The futility continued in the second half as the Jets didn't get a first down until there was 5:19 left in the game.  Clemens ended the game completing just 12 of 27 passes for 142 yards.  RB Thomas Jones rushed for only 40 yards on 17 attempts.

New York has been horrible on the road this season going 0-5 SU & 1-4 ATS. However, the Jets have loved Southern Florida as they are 6-3 SU & 8-1 ATS in their L9 games in Miami.  The Dolphins have struggled in this series as well failing to cover going 0-8 ATS the L8 meetings.  It’s a pickem now, but if Miami ends up the favorite consider that they are 1-14 ATS their L15 games in December as a divisional home favorite

If the Dolphins are to break into the win column they do have one thing going for them.  That is their running game, as they are 3rd in the NFL at 4.5 yards per rush and will be playing against a  Jets defense that allows the 3rd most rushing yards in the league.
