2011 NFL Predictions Week 12: With an impressive win over the San Francisco 49ers Thursday night, the Baltimore Ravens took sole possession of the AFC North, but for how long. With teams like Pittsburgh and Cincinnati stepping on their heels, can the Ravens keep up this pace? This week, both the Steelers and Bengals will have a great opportunity to close the distance, as they both take on sub-500 teams.
For the Steelers, a broken thumb in Ben Roethlisberger is like saying there’s a fly on an elephant. After a bye week of rehab and limited practice, Big Ben and the Steelers [-10.5] are ready to take on the NFL Point Spreads underdog (4-6) Kansas City Chiefs [+10.5] Sunday night.
The Chiefs injuries and struggles have made this season all but a total loss. Losing Matt Cassel to a hand injury is just one of many big names to be sitting on the injured reserve list. In total, seven KC players have had their seasons end prematurely because of injury. Although -10.5 seems a bit excessive, especially considering Roethlisberger is also less than 100 percent, it’s a line I would be willing to take.
For the Bengals [-7], Andy Dalton & Co. should also have very little resistance this week, as they welcome the betting underdog Cleveland Browns [+7]. Cincinnati is coming off a tough loss a week ago, as they were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens, 24-31. Seven points shouldn’t be much of a problem for a team that’s looking to win a division this season.
These are the types of games Cincy has to win in order to have any chance of getting into the postseason. Their schedule certainly doesn’t favor them from here on out, as they’ll play Pittsburgh, Houston and Baltimore once more.
