Looking over the NFL lines of the NFL Picks Week 13 matchups it was hard not to notice a few numbers that jumped off the page. Notably, the posted totals on three of the games. We were intrigued by the fact this week’s lineup featured a trio of games with totals right at, or above the 50-mark.
It wasn’t that long ago a posted total of 50-plus was a rare event, but over the last few seasons we’ve begun to see a few more sprinkled throughout each season, usually involving the Indianapolis Colts. But this season has seen a noticeable shift and this card is a perfect example.
The week’s action kicked off with the Thursday night Packers-Cowboys matchup sporting a 51.5 Over/Under number, and it concludes on Monday night with the Patriots and Ravens game butting right up against the 50-mark for their posted total (currently it sits at 49.5 at SportsBetting.com but could hit 50 before game time). In between those two matchups you’ll find a 51 hung on the Cleveland Browns – Arizona Cardinals Sunday game.
That’s correct…not only is there a Baltimore Raven game with a posted total a sliver away from the 50-mark, but Cleveland is part of the “Over” 50 club. We note that prior to NFL Week 5 of this season, there had only been one Brown game with a posted total over 44 since the 2003 season and now in back-to-back weeks they have had a total of over 50 on their matchups (last week vs. Houston the line was 52, which went under in a 27-17 final).
This is unfamiliar territory for the Ravens as well, but they’re opponent this week makes it impossible to hang anything but a big number. New England keeps scoring and bettors keep hitting the “Over” when they take the field.
This offensive prowess has led New England to a mark of 9 overs and 2 unders in their 11 games so far this season. In fact going into the Monday Nighter, New England’s Over/Under record in their last 17 games is 14 overs and 3 unders.
Regardless of the fact Baltimore’s been known for a stout defense (they rank 4th in yards allowed this year), the betting public still can’t stay off the “over” in a Patriot game, as 80% of the action at SportsBetting.com on this one is pegged on the game hitting at least 50 points.
