Atlanta Falcons vs Houston Texans Spread 2011 NFL Picks Week 13: Two season-ending injuries to Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart have left the AFC South leading (8-3) Houston Texans [+3] naked at the quarterback position. Can the Texans hold on long enough to win the division with third-stringer, T.J. Yates as the starting signal-caller or will they collapse with five games remaining?
Of course, the answer to that is going to depend on the Texans remaining schedule. Luckily, Houston’s Week 13 matchup with the NFL Point Spread favorite Atlanta Falcons [-3] appears to be the toughest one on the schedule, as the Texans will finish the season against: (7-4) Atlanta, (7-4) Cincinnati, (3-8) Carolina, (0-11) Indianapolis, and (6-5) Tennessee. The Texans come into this week with a three-game lead over the Titans with five to play.
After Schaub was placed on injured reserve due to a foot injury, it seemed like it was the opportunity Leinart had been waiting for. The former USC star looked strong to start the game, completing 10 of 13 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. However, Leinart suffered a broken collarbone in the second quarter of last week’s 20-13 victory over Jacksonville.
Although Yates will be the projected starter from here on out, the Texans went out and signed veteran quarterback Jake Delhomme, just in case. It came down to choosing between he and Garcia, and Gary Kubiak decided to go with the 36-year-old, 2005 Pro Bowler.
“He's a leader and a good person,” Kubiak said of Delhomme. “He's played in big games. He's got West Coast (offense) verbiage in his background. He was so upbeat about coming here. He showed good arm strength. I was impressed. He's just a very impressive guy.”
