Kansas City Chiefs vs Chicago Bears Spread 2011 NFL Picks Week 13: With the (4-7) Kansas City Chiefs [+7] all but out of the playoff race, this game will be all about the NFL Point Spread favorite (7-4) Chicago Bears [-7] trying to survive in life without Jay Cutler. With five games to play and currently in a three-way tie with Atlanta and Detroit for the final NFC Wild Card spot, Chicago is forced to make a move at the quarterback position.
As we saw last week against the Oakland Raiders, it’ll be hard to imagine that Caleb Hanie will lead this team to the playoffs. Thus, one of the biggest rumors swirling around is that the Bears will sign Donovan McNabb, who was recently released by the Minnesota Vikings. McNabb, who believes he can still be a starter elsewhere, requested for the Vikes to release him and they obliged him.
To many Bears fans, brining the 35-year-old, 6-time Pro Bowler to play in his hometown is worth the risk with so much at stake. This rumor has gained so much momentum that Bears players are being asked to answer questions about a possible McNabb signing. One of those guys was backup quarterback, Josh McCown, who recently signed up to be Hanie’s backup following Cutler’s trip to season ending IR.
“I'm here until I'm not here. I'm going to work as hard as I can while I'm here. The other stuff, I can't worry about because that's their choice,” McCown said. “If you look at the same thing with Kyle, the Bears placed a claim for Kyle because he has had more success than I've had, and Donovan has had more success than I've had. Of course people are going to speculate. Why wouldn't you? There is certainly merit to why people would make that connection because Donovan's a heck of a player.”
One thing working for McNabb over Orton in ending up in the Windy City is that his salary is $1.485 million, which is $1.1 million less than what the Bears were willing to pickup for the former Bronco. On Thursday after practice, head coach Lovie Smith mentioned the possibility of No.5 becoming a Bear.
“He has been a great player in the league,” he said. “I don't speculate with anything else besides that.”
