NFL Picks Week 14: St. Louis Rams vs Cincinnati Bengals

by Alexander Banks on Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Week 14 of the NFL Picks pits the St. Louis Rams visiting the Cincinnati in a matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.  St. Louis.  After losing their first eight games of the season the Rams have put together a decent run as they have one 3 of their last 4 games to sit at 4-9 SU on the season.  Although out of the playoff picture if they can keep playing respectably they can play the roll of spoiler.  After being blamed for their previous loss QB Gus Frerotte came back in big fashion last week as he threw three touchdown passes in the first half, to beat the Falcons 28-16.  RB Steven Jackson had a good game as well rushing for 96 yards on 20 rushes and one touchdown.  Jackson has been averaging 92.6 yards in his last three contests. This week could also mark the return of starting QB Marc Bulger.  SBGglobal.com has the Rams on the underdog side of the ledger at +7 points.

The Bengals off of another loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week come in three games out of the final AFC wild-card spot and have 10 teams in front of them in the conference standings at 4-8 SU. If the Bengals can’t pull off four wins in their last games they will end up with their16th non-winning season in their last 17.  Last season, the Bengals lost their final three games and failed to make the playoffs, one year after finishing 11-5 and winning the division.  Bengal QB Carson Palmer struggled against the Steelers last week going 17-for-44 for a season-low 183 yards with no touchdowns.  RB Rudi Johnson was held in check as he rushed for only 34 yards on 14 carries after rushing for  88 yards a week earlier.Home has not been a friend to the Bengals as they only 3-3 SU & ATS while scoring an average of 25.5 points per game. One hope for the Rams is that they have won twice on the road despite scoring just 11.5 points per game. They also have three straight double-digit wins over Cincinnati.

The inconsistent Bengals have a losing record but are scoring the NFL’s 7th most points this season.  Which team will show up this week?
