Week 14 has many teams on the verge of clinching a title division, first round bye or a regular playoff berth. Houston, Baltimore, Atlanta and San Francisco can clinch one of the following. One of the better matchups with playoff implications in Week 14 has the NY Giants hosting the New Orleans Saints. A loss ends an improbable playoff dash for New Orleans and if Big Blue loses, the NFC East is kicked wide open. Let’s preview the Saints vs Giants as I make my expert NFL Week 14 Picks. We recommend you check out the latest NFL Point Spreads heading into Week 14 of the 2012 NFL season.
The Saints (5-7, 2-4 V) lost to the Atlanta Falcons 13-23, on the road, in Week 13. QB Drew Brees threw five interceptions for the first time in his career and, rubbing salt in the wound, the Falcons also ended his NFL-record streak of touchdown passes. The Saints need to win out to have any chance, and even that might not be enough to get the defending division champs back to the playoffs. “It looks pretty bleak right now,” interim coach Joe Vitt said.
The Giants (7-5, 4-2 H) lost to the Washington Redskins, on the road, last Sunday night. QB Eli Manning completed 20 of 33 passes for 280 yards and a touchdown for the Giants, who had won 26 in a row on the road when holding a halftime lead. RB Ahmad Bradshaw ran for 103 yards on 24 carries for New York. Victor Cruz had five catches for 104 yards for the Giants.
Both teams are capable of running the ball, but these are downfield, high-flying offenses with fast receivers. The Saints see your Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz and raise you a Marques Colston or Jimmy Graham. Watch to see if Drew Brees can shake off a rare poor performance at Atlanta, and if the Giants’ front four can knock him off his spot. But the postseason implications loom large, too. A loss ends an improbable playoff dash for New Orleans. If Big Blue loses, the NFC East is kicked wide open.
