Could the Miami Dolphins Record be the Worst in NFL History?

by Alexander Banks on Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

The Miami Dolphins just might have confirmed they could possibly be the worst team in NFL history last week when they made Buffalo’s anemic offense look like the Patriots and banged-up defense look spectacular in losing their 13th straight game.  Miami is now off to the third-worst start to a season in NFL history, joining Oakland (1962) and Indianapolis (1986). This last loss put them one short of matching the 0-14 record set by Tampa Bay, as an expansion team in 1976, and New Orleans in 1986.

Although teams like to boast numbers for the record books there isn’t much excitement for the Miami faithful in being listed as one of only three regular season winless teams in NFL history.  This week they play the equally offensively challenge Baltimore Ravens.  A few weeks back one would have thought that there was a chance for the Dolphins in this one but you have to begin to wonder as things seem to have gotten worse.  There once was a time when Miami could at least keep scores respectable, losing six times by three points. But now the Dolphins are coming off a 40-13 loss to the Jets two weeks ago along with this weeks pasting that was over by halftime.

This could be the last hurrah for the Dolphins to break into the win column as they face the undefeated New England Patriots next week and close out the season at home against Cincinnati.  If there was ever an understatement it was when QB John Beck stated "Our backs are up against the wall as a team," said Beck, who didn't know whether he's lost the starting job. "The road is rough for some reason right now. For me, I have to keep fighting."

Although Beck seems to have some type of fight left in him one has to wonder if the Dolphins in general haven’t already packed it in for the season.  Proposition players might find it interesting that the odds makers at BetUs.com believe that the Dolphins will be the third team in history not to win a regular season game as they have them listed at 2 to 5 odds to do 0-16.  Meaning that you’d have to fork over $250 to grab $100.
