Best NFL Picks and NFL Odds for the NFL Playoffs

by Alexander Banks on Thursday, December 13th, 2007

After looking at the most recent NFL standings, only one divisional race has a legitimate chance of going down to the wire.  With only three weeks remaining in the regular season, four teams (Dallas, Green Bay, Seattle, and New England) have already locked up their respective divisions.  Tampa Bay, San Diego and Indianapolis all have the inside track on their divisions as each holds a two game lead on their nearest competitor.  That leaves us with Pittsburgh’s one game lead on Cleveland as the closest race heading into Week 14.  The Wildcard race , on the other hand, is wide open with plenty of teams vying for the four spots.   With so many teams still left in the playoff hunt, Sportsbook.com has opened odds for certain teams to make the playoffs.

Minnesota Vikings
Behind the league’s top rushing attack, the Vikings are smoldering at the perfect time.  They have won four in a row and have won their last three games by an average of 25.3 points.  With two home games and all three games against teams with a losing record, there is no reason the red hot Vikings can’t finish at least 9-7. Make the playoffs: Yes -600, No +2500

New Orleans Saints
After losing their first four games of the season, the Saints are 6-3 since.  There offense is back on track averaging 22+ in eight of their last nine games.  They might have to make the push for the playoffs without RB Reggie Bush who might have to shut it down for the season.  Like the Vikings, the Saints remaining opponents all have losing records and two of their three games will be at the Superdome.  Make the playoffs: Yes +350, No -500

Arizona Cardinals
This was supposed to be the year the Cardinals finally made the playoffs.  At 6-7 it isn’t looking good but with home games against the Rams and the Falcons, they should finish at least 8-8. This weekend’s game at New Orleans could go a long way of determining whether folks in the desert will have to wait yet another year to play past Week 17. Make the playoffs: Yes +1200, No -2000

Cleveland Browns
Without a doubt, the surprise team of the year, the Browns sit at 8-5 and are only a game behind the Steelers in the AFC North.  They were swept by the Steelers in the regular season series so they would lose to their rival in a tie breaker scenario.  That being said, the Browns have three very winnable games remaining (Buffalo, @ Cincinnati, and San Francisco) so a wildcard berth is definitely within reason. Make the playoffs: Yes -400, No +300

Buffalo Bills
After a rough start to the season, the Bills are 7-3 in their last 10 games.  This might be a bit deceiving as those 7 victories came against teams with a combined record of 18-39. With games on the road in Cleveland and Philly and a home game versus the Giants, it might be a challenge for the Bills to win more than one game.  Make the playoffs: Yes +600, No -1000

Tennessee Titans
The Titans are ice cold having dropped four out of their last five.  Luckily they play the 4-9 Chiefs and the 3-10 Jets before taking on the Colts during the final week of the season.  If the Colts sit some starters as could be the case, the Titans could win their final three games and finish with a 10-7 record.  Make the playoffs: Yes +600, No -1000

Denver Broncos
The Broncos playoff hopes aren’t looking too promising as they are 6-7 and on the road the next two weeks.  This weekend they play a Texans squad which is 4-2 at home this year.  Next week they travel to play the AFC West leading Chargers. Finally, Week 17 they are finally at home but play the Vikings. Make the playoffs: Yes +1500, No -3000
