NFL Picks Week 15: Green Bay Packers vs St. Louis Rams

NFL Picks Week 15: Green Bay Packers vs St. Louis RamsThe Green Bay Packers savoring a playoff spot sitting at 11-2 SU as and NFL Picks takes to the road to visit the unimposing St. Louis Rams in Week 15.  After a poor showing against the Cowboys the previous week the Packers bounced back nicely in beating up on the Oakland Raiders.  The big difference this season in the Packers is that now they finally have a running game.  Fortunately for the Packers that allowed Brett Favre to somewhat rest his aching shoulder and elbow needing to throw only 23 passes.  RB Ryan Grant did the rest as the rushed for a career-high 156 yards and a touchdown. It was his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season. Before Grant’s arrival Green Bay had been one of the league's worst rushing offenses.  The Packer defense has stepped it up this year as well and held Oakland to only 233 yards of total offense in the lopsided win.  Not much hope for the Rams in this one as Sportsbetting.com has the Packers as a double digit -10 favorite.

The Rams after snapping an 8 game losing streak with two wins in a row come into this contest losing two of their last three including last weeks 19-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.  Getting only one day of practice last week and having to sub for injured starter Marc Bulger, St. Louis QB Brock Berlin hung in there completing17-of-28 for 153 yards with no touchdowns. RB Steven Jackson tried to shoulder the offensive burden as he rushed for 91 yards on 18 carries but it wasn’t enough as season long injury problems at quarterback and the offensive line have taken a toll on the offense. The Rams offense has now scored fewer than 20 points nine times this season.

The Packers need only one win to clinch a first round bye but it might not be that easy this week as St. Louis when playing at home has been tough on the Packers, as the Rams have won the last two meeting in St. Louis by an average of 39.5-20.5 while forcing 12 turnovers.  But Packers backers can take solace in the fact that they are 10-2 ATS overall this season and a perfect 2-0 ATS as a double digit favorite while the Rams are only 3-9 SU & 4-8 ATS in their  L12 home games and are on an 0-8 ATS run versus teams averaging 7 or more passing yards per attempt.

This one doesn’t pose much of a problem for Green Bay but consider that motivation might be a bit low since they only need to win 1 of their last 3 contests for the coveted first round bye.
