NFL Picks: Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys

by Alexander Banks on Sunday, December 16th, 2007

With one team sewing up their Divisional Title and another just playing out the season going into Week 15 the Philadelphia Eagles play their NFL Picks rival Dallas Cowboys.  The Eagles who have lost three in row have all but eliminated themselves from playoff contention.  McNabb, who is expected to start again on Sunday, was sidelined for the two previous games with a sprained right ankle but he hasn’t really ignited the Eagles as they are only 5-6 SU with the offense only averaging just 19.9 points per game. Last week McNabb was 20 of 40 for 179 yards and one touchdown while being sacked three times.  Even though the Eagles have not had a consistent answer at quarterback RB Brian Westbrook continues to have an outstanding season at running back. Westbrook has rushed for 1,110 yards and seven touchdowns on 236 carries including last weeks 116 yards against the Giants.  The Eagles certainly have an uphill battle in this one considering recent performances and as such BetOnline.com has listed them as a +10 underdog.

Dallas after a come from behind win over the Detroit Lions in the final seconds come into this contest at12-1 SU having clinched the NFC East for the first time since 1998 and are looking to earning home-field advantage through the conference playoffs.  The Cowboys won most notably because of the heroics of QB Tony Romo who was 35 of 44 for 302 yards and two TDs, helping the Cowboys win 12 of their first 13 games for the first time in franchise history.  Detroit was somewhat successful in hold the RB tandem of Barber and Jones in check as they combined for only 72 yards rushing.  Detroit was also successful in taking Terrell Owens out of the game, limiting him to three catches for 21 yards, but that move created chances for Witten and Barber in the passing game.

Although the Eagles are out of the playoff hunt you shouldn’t give up on them in this one as they have had some success in “Big-D” going 6-5 SU & 8-3 ATS in their L11 visits. The Eagles are also 8-1 ATS in its L9 versus teams who outscore their opponents by over 10 points per game and 20-8 ATS revenging a home loss. In contrast Dallas is 4-0 SU & 3-1 ATS in division games in this season.

Philadelphia is out of the playoff hunt while Dallas is in and looking for the top spot in the conference, but will all that matter in this rivalry?
