The Minnesota Vikings look to win their fifth straight NFL Picks game and Adrian Peterson tries to bounce back from the worst outing of his brief career when they hosts the Chicago Bears on Monday night. After an horrible start to the season the Minnesota Vikings have put themselves in control of their playoff destiny for the first time and above the .500 mark at 7-6 SU overall. Since losing to Green Bay 34-0 the Vikings are averaging almost 35 points per game and have outscored their last three opponents by a combined score of 110-34. The last time that these two teams met rookie sensation Adrian Peterson rushed for 224 yards which was the most rushing yards ever given up by the Bears in their 88-year history, and scored on runs of 67, 73 and 35 yards. Bodog.com has Minnesota the heavy favorite at -10 points.
Chicago, who are just about out of playoff contention, come in at 5-8 SU overall having lost three of their last four after reaching the Super Bowl last season. Last week the Bears defense did show some semblance of last years top unit as they held Washington to a season low 31 yards on the ground. However, they still rank 24th in the league against the run allowing 123.2 yards per game. Inconsistent QB Rex Grossman sprained his left knee in the first quarter last week and will be out for the rest of the season. As a result, the Bears have elected to pass over Brian Griese, who replaced Grossman against the Redskins and has made six starts this season, in favor of third-string quarterback Kyle Orton. As a rookie in 2005, Orton helped lead the Bears to a 10-5 record and a NFC North Division title before being benched for Grossman. Orton finished the 2005 season throwing for 1,869 yards, nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions with a 59.7 quarterback rating.
The Vikings are on a four game SU & ATS winning streak having outscored opponents by 20.8 points per game in that run. The Vikings are the top rushing team in the NFL at 172 yards per game and 5.5 yards per rush. That bodes well for Chicago backers as they are 22-8 ATS versus teams who rush for more than130 yards per game. In this series the favorite might not be the way to go when playing at the Metrodome as they are 11-5 SU but only 5-11 ATS.
The Bears are playing for pride and would love nothing more at this point than to spoil things for their hated rival, especially since Minnesota won earlier in the year at Soldier Field.
Michael Alexander is coming off a huge Sunday last week and is locked and loaded with more GUARANTEED selections at Alexandersports.
