In Week 16 of the NFL Picks the Green Bay Packers look to make it three wins in a row after their loss to Dallas when they take on the hapless Chicago Bears. With their win last week combined with Dallas’ loss the Packers are now tied for the best record in the NFC and also have secured a first round bye for the first time since 1997. The ageless Brett Favre threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns to become the NFL career leader in yards passing, in a 33-14 victory over the St. Louis Rams last week. The Packers needed Favre’s arm as they running game stalled with RB Ryan Grant rushing for only 55 yards on 18 carriers. Their defense also had trouble versus the run against the Rams as Steven Jackson rushed for 143 yards on 24 carries. The Packers are 6-1 SU on the road this season and will be playing the Bears who are the only other team this season to beat them. The Packers have been installed as a hefty -9 point favorite at SBGglobal.com.
The Chicago Bears who come into this one officially eliminated from playoff contention will be trying to snap a three game losing streak after their loss to Minnesota last week. After Adrian Peterson ran roughshod through the Chicago defense earlier in the season it appeared the Bear’s defense came to play as they allowed him only 78 yards on 20 carries. They were also able to pick off three Tavaris Jackson passes that kept them in the game. The Bears did go with third string QB Kyle Orton and he proceeded to go 22 of 38 for 184 yards with one interception. But it was that interception with just under 2 minutes to go in the game that sealed the loss for the Bears.
Green Bay has owned the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field as they are12-1 SU and 10-3 ATS their L13. Green Bay has also been great closers in the final two weeks of the regular season going 12-2 SU this decade. The Bears will find it tough to cover the number historically as they are 2-4 SU & 1-5 at home in this season and 6-19 ATS in their L25 games against and offenses gaining more than 6 yards per play.
It might be a mismatch on paper but you can never tell when hated rivals hook up on any given Sunday. Can the Pack avenge their only other loss this season?
