NFL Picks: Houston Texans vs Indianapolis Colts

by Alexander Banks on Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

The Houston Texans at 7-7 SU in Week 16 look to remain in playoff contention of NFL Picks as they travel to take on the 12-2 SU Indianapolis Colts.  Last weeks win over the Denver Broncos tied a franchise record for most victories and was their second solid performance in a row.  Last years #1 pick Mario Williams had his best game last week recoding a career-high 3 1/2 sacks and now has the second most sacks in the NFL behind Patrick Kerney to lead the Houston Texans defense.  Ron Dayne, who didn't start because of a sore ankle, finished the game with 11 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.  Sage Rosenfels, who once again started for the injured Matt Schaub and was 16 of 27 for 200 yards with a touchdown and an interception.  Apparently the public still doesn’t think that the Texans are for real as BetOnline.com as them listed as a +6.5 point underdog.

The Colts although coming off an unimpressive win over Oakland last week clinched their fifth straight AFC South title while becoming the first team ever to post five straight 12-win seasons and gave them the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.  The Colts seemed to be sleep walking most of the day as Oakland who sports the leagues second worst rushing defense held RB Joseph Addai to 44 yards on 15 carries.  The Raider defense was also able to hold Manning in check allowing him to complete just 22 of 39 passes for 264 yards and an interception.  Indianapolis is also in a position to rest most of their starters since they can no longer improve or worsen their playoff position.

The Colts ability to rest their starters at the end of the season certainly has had an impact on betting since they are just 8-22 ATS in the final two weeks of the regular season.  But the Texans have struggled on the road as they are only 2-5 SU & ATS on the road. In addition the Colts are 13-25 ATS as a divisional home favorite.

One big question here is what Dungy will do with his players.  Is it a case of where it sits them or one where he attempts to send Houston home for the New Year.

Michael Alexander is looking at this game as it could be one of his top GUARANTEED selections at Alexandersports.
