The end of the 2009 NFL season is almost here and that means one thing, its playoff time! Super Bowl XLIV kicks off in Miami, Florida, on February 7, 2010. Last year’s Champs, the Pittsburgh Steelers, started off the season as favorites but have since dropped to obscurity. Let’s take a look at the favorites competing for the Lombardi Trophy. NFC oddsmakers at SPORTSBOOK.com have the Indianapolis Colts as +250 moneyline favorites to win Super Bowl XLIV . Be sure to get your 2010 Superbowl Predictions in now at SPORTSBOOK.com
The Indianapolis Colts (+250) lead all teams after clinching the AFC and securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They’ve won 14 straight games and are 10-0 against opponents in the AFC. QB Peyton Manning has been to the big dance before and can play under pressure. He is only one of two three-time NFL MVP’s and is the best quarterback in the league when trailing in the fourth quarter. He is the best quarterback at reading defenses and if he has time in the pocket, no defense can slow him down. They have the offense, combined with a deadly pass game, to go along way into the playoffs.
The New Orleans Saints (+300) have had their best season ever and are a strong favorite with their high powered offense. They scored more points than any other team in the league. They are 9-1 against opponents in the NFC and are the only team in the NFC to win every game on the road. QB Drew Brees is throwing touchdowns at will and has many receivers to throw to. Their running game is just as good as their pass game and that one-two punch is what it takes to win a Super Bowl. Their defense has been their downfall in the past, but they’ve been solid this year.
The Minnesota Vikings (+400) started off red hot but are slipping in December as questions surround QB Brett Favre’s fitness heading into the final weeks. If he can keep it together, the Vikings will have a great one-two punch in their ground and pass game. They are 8-2 against NFC teams and they’re the only team in the NFC to win all home games. They have one of the best running backs in the league and Brett Favre has many weapons on his receiving core.
The San Diego Chargers (+500) are peaking at the right time heading into the playoffs. They have one loss since their bye week and are 8-3 against opponents in the AFC. They are all about airing out the ball, and they have the short yardage ground game to knock off opponents. Their defense isn’t the strongest, but they’ve put up more points than their opponents can cover. They are almost better on the road but I’m sure they’ll want to play on home soil.
The Philadelphia Eagles (+800) are getting it done without one of their top runningbacks and that can be deadly. They are 9-2 against opponents in the NFC and have scored the second most points in the NFC, second to the Saints. QB Donovan McNabb is a great quarterback in or out of the pocket. He is a scrambler who’s not afraid to run the ball himself or scramble to find an open receiver down field. They have great receivers who pull off amazing catches and a ground game that can move chains. Their defense has been solid and they’ll get even better in the playoffs.
