NFL Picks: Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers

NFL Picks Week 17: Detroit Lions vs Green Bay PackersWhile looking like a possible playoff team earlier in the season in Week 17 the Detroit Lions look for their second win in a row of NFL Picks when they travel to the frozen tundra to take on the Green Bay Packers.  After snapping a six game losing streak last week to put them at 7-8 SU overall the Lions will be looking to finish the season at the .500 mark.  The win last week also surpassed the most victories they've had in seven seasons under team president Matt Millen. Detroit also guaranteed it won't be the first NFL team to finish 6-10 SU after winning six of its first eight games of the season.  RB T.J. Duckett ran for a season-high 102 yards and a touchdown versus a Kansas City defense that ranked 13th in total yards.  QB Jon Kitna finished the day completing only 9 of 16 passes for 115 yards and an interception.  Although Green Bay might not have much to play for the Lions are still listed as a +3.5 point underdog at Bodog.com

Needing to keep winning and hope that the Cowboys lose one more time so that they secure the #1 Seed the Green Bay Packers looked all but a playoff team as they turned in their worst performance of the year last week in a 35-7 loss to the Chicago Bears.  Favre had arguably one of his worst games on record as he passed for a total of only 9 yards in the first half enroute to a 17 of 32 day while throwing two interceptions.  Not only did Favre fall apart last week but the Packers’ special teams was a disaster as well as they Bears blocked two punts by Jon Ryan, who also dropped a snap and booted a 9-yarder.  The Packers had gone 12 years and 929 punts without a block up to that point.  It will be interesting to see if head coach Mike McCarthy will rest players or play them in a effort to play out last weeks poor performance.

Although Detroit is coming off a win last week they are still just 1-6 ATS in its L7 games overall.  In addition the Lions are also 2-5 SU & ATS on the road this season and have been outscored by 17.3 points per game.  Resting starters might not matter as the Pack is 11-3-2 ATS in their 16 game home winning streak versus Detroit.

So will the Packers rest their starters or go all out?
