NFL Picks: Buffalo Bills vs Philadelphia Eagles

by Alexander Banks on Sunday, December 30th, 2007

NFL Picks Week 17: Buffalo Bills at Philadelphia EaglesIn a matchup of 7-8 SU clubs of NFL Picks the Philadelphia Eagles host the Buffalo Bills in Week 17 with both hoping to finish the season at .500.  The Eagles come into this one winners of 2 in a row including a 10-6 road win over the top seeded Dallas Cowboys.  The much maligned Philadelphia QB, Donovan McNabb, has had a good couple of weeks after coming back from injury and just might have squashed any ideas of him leaving the Eagles next season.  McNabb has regained his mobility and passing touch in three games since getting back on the field. He has not thrown an interception since returning, completing 63.2 percent of his passes for 650 yards with five touchdowns, and has rushed for 101 yards on 19 carries.  RB Brian Westbrook who has been having an unbelievable season once again rushed for 100 yards last week on 17 carriers.  The running game as a whole amassed 184 yards versus the Saints last week.  The Eagles have been installed as a -7.5 point favorite at BetOnline.com

Unlike the Eagles the Bills look to snap a two game losing streak this week after their loss to the Giants.  The Bills however last week proved again that they can’t beat a playoff contender as six of Buffalo's eight losses this year have come against teams that have qualified for the postseason.  QB Trent Edwards got the start again last week but had a horrible day as he was only 9 of 26 for 161 yards with two touchdowns and 3 interceptions.  The Bills running game also struggled as starting RB Marshawn Lynch ran for 70 yards on 18 carriers.  On the other side of the ball the Bills defense couldn’t stop the Giants running attack as they gave up a total of 296 yards rushing.  The Bills have also been horrible on the road as they have scored an anemic 9.6 points per game.

The Bills may not have been able to beat a playoff contender yet but they are a perfect 6-0 ATS mark against teams with a losing record this season.  But Philadelphia counters that as they are 20-7 ATS versus teams who amass 42 or less penalty yards per game in the second half of the season since 1992.  For total players the Eagles are 6-0 UNDER against losing teams at home.

This game has no bearing on any playoff outcomes but could be an interesting matchup as both look to at least finish the season on a good note.
