NFL Picks: Seattle Seahawks vs Atlanta Falcons

NFL Picks Week 17: Seattle Seahawks vs Atlanta FalconsThe Seattle Seahawks in Week 17 hit the road locked into the NFL Picks NFC's third seed as they take on the Atlanta Falcons.  In another game of possible backup players, the Seahawks might look to rest their starters as they can not improve their playoff position.  However, a victory will give Seattle 11 wins for only the third time in franchise history. Nest week the Seahawks will host either Washington, Minnesota or New Orleans, who are all still battling for the NFC's second wild card spot. The Seahawks will be making their fifth straight playoff appearance and have won four straight NFC West titles.  Seattle comes into this one winners of 6 of their last 7 overall but has had to rely on their passing game since their running attack has all but disappeared. QB Matt Hasselbeck has been having an MVP year as he is just 22 passing yards away from the Seattle record of 3,841 yards he set in 2003.  With the possibility of Seattle resting their starters they have been listed as a +3 point underdog at SBGglobal.com

The Falcons come into this one finishing up an absolute horrible year after losing both their starting QB Michael Vick and head coach Bobby Petrino.  The Falcons have lost six in a row and are 3-12 SU overall.  A loss this week will equal the franchise mark of 13 losses set in 19809 and 1996.  Last week the Falcons came close to ending their six game skid losing to Arizona 30-27 in overtime.   Quarterback Chris Redman, starting for the third straight week, rallied the Falcons from 10 points down in the fourth quarter.  Redman was 28 of 42 for a career high 315 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The Falcons, who rank ahead of only San Francisco with 14.3 points per game, posted a season high for points.

Even with the possibility of Seattle resting their starters in this game it still might not be prudent to take the Falcons as they are only 3-8 ATS as a home dog over the L3 seasons and 3-12 ATS versus teams with a winning record. Seattle is 8-2 ATS in their L10 road finales and 12-3 SU & 10-4 ATS in the L2 weeks of the regular season.

The Seahawks have been playing well while the Falcons are just playing out the season.  However, Holmgren still has not decided whether or not he will actually rest his starters in this one.
