The Eagles lost 20-27 to Green Bay as the life-after-Donovan-McNabb era in Philadelphia isn’t off to a good start. QB Kevin Kolb was shaky in his injury-shortened debut after making five of 10 passes for 24 yards. Kolb was knocked out of the game with a concussion in the first half, he briefly returned, and then left for good after halftime when his vision never completely cleared. Flashing some of his vintage Atlanta form, backup QB Michael Vick wound up playing on all six of the Eagles' second-half possessions and part of two first-half drives, easily his most extensive action since returning to the NFL last year after missing the 2007 and 2008 seasons while in prison. He appeared on all four of Philly's scoring drives and, after the game, made an eye-opening assessment that perhaps will reverberate this week within the Eagles locker room and among the team's fans. "I feel like if I had been out there for four quarters, maybe we would have had a chance to win the game,'' said Michael Vick . But it was laso a bad day for many players and the big question is how will Phillies roster begin to recover from a brutal day that saw four starters knocked out, including almost certain season-ending injuries to center Jamaal Jackson (torn biceps) and fullback Leonard Weaver (torn ACL).

The Lions showed promise, despite losing 14-19 in Chicago. They could’ve won the game if not for the infamous non-catch by Calvin Johnson in the final minute. But, on a bad note they’ll lose QB Matthew Stafford because of a shoulder injury. Stafford's down, though not technically out yet. So Former Niners QB Shaun Hill will be moving up the depth chart in relief, a reality the Lions weren't ready to officially announce Monday. The Lions haven't had a backup quarterback win for them as a fill-in starter since 2005. Hill went 10-6 as a starter the last three years, with most of that success coming as an elevated backup in 2007 and '08. Hill knows coordinator Scott Linehan's system well after spending his first four NFL seasons playing in it in Minnesota, and he has his teammates' trust. "Shaun's a wily veteran," said receiver Calvin Johnson, "and he knows what to do." Hill might've been hailed as the hero who rescued the Lions with a six-play, 83-yard touchdown drive to end a 20-game road losing streak. "That was a heck of a drive," Schwartz said. "If that ball's complete right there, the Shaun Hill 2-minute drive at the end of that game is a story that would've been easy to write."
