Jim Mora, Jr. and the Atlanta Falcons look to rebound from a disappointing 2005 season. Head coach Mora addressed the Falcons needs in the off season in hopes to get back to the NFC Championship game and potentially a run at the Super Bowl in Miami.
Michael Vick is going to start as the quarterback for the 2006 Atlanta Falcons. Vick completed 214 passes on 387 attempts for 2,412 yards and 15 touchdowns. Vick ran for 597 yards in 2005 which help contribute to the Atlanta Falcons leading the NFL in rushing for 2005. Warrick Dunn will be the starting running back. Dunn rushed 280 times for 1,416 yards and 3 touchdowns. Most of the goal line attempts will go to TJ Duckett. Duckett scored 8 touchdowns in 2005. Alge Crumpler led the team in receiving yards as a tight end. Crumpler racked up 877 yards and 5 touchdowns as Vick’s primary target in 2005.

Due to injuries, the Atlanta Falcons defense was ranked 26th against the rush in 2005. Mora addressed his needs in the off season by trading their first round draft pick to acquire defensive end John Abraham from the New York Jets. DeAngelo Hall was the only bright spot from last year’s defensive unit. Hall recorded 6 interceptions in his second year on the team. Mora grabbed Virginia Tech cornerback Jimmy Williams in the second round to help Hall. The Falcons defense is improved on paper, but needs to stay healthy throughout the season if they are to get into the playoffs in 2006.
