Baltimore Ravens 2006 AFC North Preview

by Thomas Jensen on Friday, August 25th, 2006

Baltimore Ravens 2006 AFC North PreviewBaltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick is returning for his 8th season.  Billick brought in Jim Fassel, the former head coach he beat in the Super Bowl, a few years back to help with the offensive system.  Many questions remain unanswered including how long Steve McNair will remain health and can Jamal Lewis return to pro bowl form.

Steve McNair departed Tennessee and has not looked back.  McNair is a experienced field general that is extremely tough.  Jamal Lewis should have a good year, but will never get back to his peak performance from a few years back.  Wide Receivers Mark Clayton and Derrick Mason will be big targets for McNair.  McNair should be able to give the Ravens defense some support this season.

The Baltimore Ravens defense took some hits in the off season due to free agency.  The verbal disagreement between Ray Lewis and the Ravens seems to be over.  Lewis is the core of the defense that ranked 5th overall in the NFL for 2005.  First round draft pick Haloti Ngata is widely considered to be the best run stopping defensive end to come out of the 2005 NFL Draft.  The Ravens defense will perform all season and will keep them in close games.
