Buffalo Bills – AFC East Preview

Buffalo Bills - AFC East PreviewThe 2007 Buffalo Bills are a youthful team with an old savvy G.M Marv Levy who has pieced together a band of high-character players. Head Coach Dick Jauron has simplified his approach to adjust to the team’s inexperience and it has paid dividends. SBG Global have made the Buffalo Bills +7500 betting odds to win the 2008 Super Bowl XLII.

The Bills have some promise on the offensive side of the ball to be competitive. Fleet footed 4th year QB J.P Losman will lead an offense that has made steady improvement. The Bills are primarily a traditional running team but Losman throws a nice deep ball so expect the Bills to continue taking their shots downfield. J.P Losman for all his athletic prowess still lacks true pocket presence and forces too many balls into coverage. #1 NFL Draft pick Marshawn Lynch was brought in to replace the disgruntled Willis McGahee.

Lynch is a pure runner who is strong and durable. Big RB Anthony Thomas will combine with Lynch to form a bruising 1-2 tandem. WR Lee Evans is possibly the fastest game time player in the league and is Losman’s favorite target. Expect big numbers from Lee Evans this year. The O-line is larger than last year with an especially brawny left side that will be commanding.

The Bills carry out a cover 2 defense out of the 4-3 formation. The front seven is a bit undersized but  have linebackers that like to attack. The defense is led by workaholic Pro Bowl DE Aaron Schobel. The Linebacking core was dismantled in the off-season with the departures of Takeo Spikes and London Fletcher. Those shoes will be hard to fill but the team did draft a great tackler in Paul Posluszny. In the Secondary the Bills lost a very good cornerback in Nate Clements. The Bills rely heavily on the Defensive Backs to be in single coverage so the loss of Clements could be significant. The Special Teams are indeed a special group all the way around. The coverage and return units make an impact on games.

The Bills are an improving team stuck in a tough division. If J.P Losman continues to get better the Bills could surprise. The Bills are most likely a 6-8 win team this season.
