Currently on the outside looking in, in terms of the AFC Playoff standings, the (7-6) Cincinnati Bengals [-7] will be desperate for a win when they visit the NFL Point Spreads underdog (2-11) St. Louis Rams [+7] this week. According to NFL Point Spreads specialists, the OVER/UNDER between the Bengals and Rams is set at a combined total of 39 points.
This would seem like the perfect opportunity for Cincy to snap out of its 2-game losing streak, but it’ll have to be on the road at Edward Jones Dome. The Bengals begin this week in a three-way tie with Oakland and Tennessee in the seventh spot in the division. One game behind the 6th seeded (8-5) New York Jets, Andy Dalton & Co. will likely need some help in order to get into the postseason.
“As far as the team goes, they are very disappointed and I’m going to have to pump some air in them,” said Bengals coach Marvin Lewis following a 19-20 loss to Houston last week. “Before this game, we controlled our own destiny, and now I can’t tell you what is going to happen.”
For the Rams, it’s all about playing the role of spoiler from here on out. Sitting at the cellar of the Conference standings, St. Louis just wants to be able to end the season on a positive not, and hopefully spoil some teams’ chances of getting into the postseason.
First order of business for the Rams is trying to snap their current 4-game losing streak. St. Louis is coming off a very poor performance in last week’s loss to the Seattle, in which the offense could muster all but one touchdown. The worst part is that the score came after the game was well point of reach, with less than five minutes remaining in the game. It took the Rams six plays, before Steven Jackson finally delivered the 1-yard TD run.
“There are a lot of things we have to overcome, but we’ve got to overcome them,” coach Steve Spagnuolo said. “We’re not going to use any excuses. We’ve got to find a way to win.”
