The New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys, Sunday Jan 1st, where winner takes the division. It’s that simple! NFL oddsmakers have the Giants as -3 point home favorites over the Cowboys with the over/under set at 46 points. Dallas (8-7, 3-4 V) lost to Philadelphia 7-20, at home, in Week 16. QB Tony Romo injured his hand on their first position and sat out the rest of the game. Romo, who had no break, had just a bruise and some swelling. Stephen McGee, moved up from third-stringer to backup when Jon Kitna went on injured reserve, took over for Romo and went 24 of 38 for 182 yards, with four runs for 28 yards. Oft-injured RB Felix Jones lasted just one more series. Dallas wound up getting within 7 seconds of being shut out. “We need to be as healthy as we can be next week,” Garrett said.

Dallas lost for the third time in four games, guaranteeing another losing record after Thanksgiving. If the Cowboys end up missing the playoffs, this flop at the finish will loom large all offseason. Of course, if they win the division, it’ll only be a footnote. This week will be filled with all sorts of similar high-stakes ramifications that will be riding on the finale for both Dallas and New York. Tony Romo was outstanding the last time they met, throwing for four touchdowns and 321 yards as he feasted on a Giants defense playing without injured safety Kenny Phillips. Phillips has returned, grabbing an interception each of the last two weeks. Dallas, meanwhile, is hoping to generate a better pass rush after Pro Bowler DeMarcus Ware and his teammates failed to sack Manning in the earlier meeting. Ware is tied for second in the league with 18 sacks.

New York (8-7, 3-4 H) won New York-area bragging rights with a 29-14 victory over the Jets, in Week 16. Victor Cruz set two franchise receiving records and RB Ahmad Bradshaw ran for two touchdowns. Cruz, who had three catches for 164 yards, broke Amani Toomer’s single-season mark for yards receiving — and the team’s record for longest touchdown reception, a 99-yarder that gave the Giants the lead for good in the second quarter.

Eli Manning is enjoying a stellar year with a career-high 4,587 passing yards – the NFL’s fourth-highest total. He owns the league’s second-best fourth-quarter passer rating at 107.5, guiding the Giants to come-from-behind victories in the final period five times. His most recent comeback was in the first meeting with Dallas. Manning threw for 400 yards and led the Giants to two touchdowns in the final 3:14 to rally them from a 34-22 deficit. “We were able to overcome some adversity and some tough situations, but I think our guys never get too down or never get too worried,” Manning said. “We always feel we’re in the game and that’s a good attitude to have.” Manning has been forced to carry the Giants because of a rushing attack that has produced a league-worst 88.1 yards per game. Brandon Jacobs, however, rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the first matchup.
