The struggling Buffalo Bills host to the Denver Broncos, Saturday Dec 24th, as the Broncos still have a one game lead in the AFC West and a win will put them in nice shape. NFL oddsmakers have the Bills as -2.5 point home favorites over the Broncos with the over/under set at 41.5 points. Denver (8-6, 5-2 V) lost to New England, 23-41 at home, in Week 15. QB Tim Tebow threw for 194 yards and ran for 93 yards and two scores but was sacked four times. Instead of another slow start followed by a fantastic finish, the Broncos started out fast and then fizzled. They scored on their first three possessions, and then were done in by a trio of second-quarter turnovers. With their first loss since Oct. 30, the AFC West-leading Broncos face a tougher path to the playoffs, with Buffalo this week followed by a season finale against Kansas City, which ended Green Bay’s 19-game winning streak.

Here’s the deal, if the Broncos beat Buffalo and lose to the Chiefs: If San Diego wins out — which includes defeating Oakland in their final game — the Broncos would still have the tiebreaker for the division title by virtue of a better record against division opponents. Tiebreaker wise, the Broncos have them all, if they beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the final game of the season Jan. 1, they’re in. One more win, though, would still put the Broncos in decent shape for a wild-card spot because they beat the 8-6 Jets and 8-6 Bengals head-to-head.

Buffalo (5-9, 4-3 H) lost to Miami, 23-30 at home, in Week 15. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick finished 31 of 47 for 316 yards, including a 2-yard TD pass to Derek Hagan, but had three interceptions. In losing the season series to their AFC East rivals, the Bills have lost seven straight and are in jeopardy of finishing last in the division for a fourth straight year.

Asked if Fitzpatrick has been pressing during Buffalo’s losing streak or has been limited in his options because of the team’s injuries, Bills coach Chan Gailey said, “There’s probably a little bit of all that. He’s probably pressing. We’ve had some guys make some wrong reads. … We’ve had some batted balls bounce some funny ways right off guys’ hands. Everything that was going right earlier in the season has been going wrong as of late. (Fitzpatrick) is not playing as bad as what the stats have looked like.” The Bills don’t let Fitzpatrick get sacked a lot. Their 20 sacks allowed are tied for the fewest in the league this season.
