Two teams fighting for their playoff lives will meet in the East Bay this Sunday, as the (8-5) Detroit Lions [-1] pay a visit to the short-handed (7-6) Oakland Raiders [+1]. This interconference matchup is scheduled to get underway today at 4 PM ET from the O.Co Coliseum and it’ll be broadcasted live on CBS Sports.
According to the most recent NFL Points Spreads, the projected OVER/UNDER line for the Lions and Raiders is set at a combined total of 47.5 points. While Hue Jackson and the Raiders find themselves one game out of the playoff standings, the Lions are barely holding on to the sixth and final spot in the NFC’s Wild Card.
“One win down, and we’ve got three left to get,” Matthew Stafford said following a 38-24 win over Minnesota last week.
With the return of Ndamukong Suh from a 2-game suspension, Detroit has the chance to finish the season on a positive note, go into the playoffs with momentum and hopefully make some noise. The Lions will finish their season at Oakland, versus San Diego and will finish the regular season at Green Bay.
“The most important thing right now is this football team and not me individually,” said Suh, the reigning defensive rookie of the year who has 31 tackles and three sacks in 2011.
Foe the Raiders, injuries have severely depleted this team’s momentum, as they now find themselves on the verge of missing the playoffs. It was just a few weeks ago that Oakland held a two-game lead in the division, and everything seemed to be headed in the right direction despite missing Darren McFadden.
However, a characteristically disastrous east coast trip has put the Silver and Black in the position to play catch-up. With the Broncos on a tear, not only have the Raiders surrendered the division lead, but would be left out of postseason play if the playoffs started today.
“Obviously we’re still in the thick of this thing,” Jackson said. “It’s still all out in front of us. It doesn’t feel that way, obviously, after the last two weeks. The reality is that’s what it is. So on we go.”
