Jeff Garcia was officially named Philadelphia’s starting quarterback for the upcoming game against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid said, "He has a lot of experience in this offense."
Jeff Garcia is a product of Eagles Offensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, when they both were in San Francisco using the West Coast Offense with the 49ers. Former Philadelphia Receiver Terrell Owens was also broken in to the NFL with Garcia in the same system with Mornhinweg.
Garcia completed 26 of 48 passes for 189 yards after Donovan McNabb tore a ligament in his right knee in the second quarter in the 31-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday November 19th, 2006. Garcia is in his seventh NFL season and has racked up a a 39-47 record as a starter.
Garcia's teammates said they have confidence in him but Donovan McNabb will still be missed in Philly. He was a big reason the Eagles had the league's second-ranked offense. McNabb was having a Pro Bowl season in many offensive statistical categories. The five time Pro Bowl Quarterback was well on his way back to Hawaii in February before the injury to his knee. Garcia takes over at quarterback for a 5-5 team that has dropped four of its last five games.
It's not going to be easy going up against Peyton Manning and the Colts team. The Indianapolis Colts lost their first game of the season against Dallas last week. Our inside sources are reporting that many of the Colts star players were living it up in Dallas nightclubs until the early morning AM hours of Sunday. Apparently, they did not take the Dallas game serious as is evident by the loss. Manning threw two of his five interceptions for the season against the Cowboys. As a team, Indianapolis had more turnovers in this game than in its last 79 NFL regular season games. Tony Dungy is looking to rebound from the loss and is actually a bit relieved that all the media hype about a "perfect season" and remaining u"ndefeated all year" is finally over.
