Jeff Garcia reaches deal with Tampa Bay Bucs

by Thomas Jensen on Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

Eagles trade Jeff Garcia to the Tampa Bay BucsFormer Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Jeff Garcia has agreed to a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Terms of the deal were not made available at press time. BetUS.com has made the Tampa Bay Buccaneers +8000 (Bet $100 to win $8,000) to win Super Bowl XLII in Arizona.

Jeff Garcia was one of the hotter commodities in the free agent market after taking over for the injured Donovan McNabb in Philly. Garcia was able to take the Philadelphia Eagles from a 5-5 record to the NFC East title this past season finishing with 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

After five productive years in San Francisco, Garcia bounced around struggling at Cleveland and Detroit before finally excelling in the "City of Brotherly Love".

Philadelphia decided to re-sign younger reserve quarterback A.J. Feeley instead of paying Garcia the money he was looking for to return.

The Buccaneers completed a trade for Denver quarterback Jake Plummer. Plummer advised team officials he was considering retirement. Tampa coach Jon Gruden and others tried to convince him to reconsider, but it is still not known whether he'll play again.
Plummer led Denver to the AFC Championship game just 15 months ago but performed poorly in a loss to Pittsburgh. He continued to struggle in the fall and was supplanted by Broncos prospect Jay Cutler.

The signings leave Tampa Bay with four quarterbacks on their roster with significant experience as starters.

Chris Simms is recovering from a splenectomy that was performed last fall after he was hurt early in the season. Despite the injury, Tampa Bay signed him to a new contract last December.

Bruce Gradkowski, also still under contract, started 13 games in his rookie season after Simms was hurt.
