Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Herm Edwards has officially put his stamp on the team. Dick Vermeil was an offensive coach who liked to get results from a high-powered passing attack. Herm Edwards is a defensive minded coach who believes in ball control on offense with a power running game. The chiefs have indeed gotten younger and tougher under Edwards but the results have been mixed. Most notably the tribe has a big question mark at the Quarterback position with Damon Huard or Brodie Croyle being unproven comodities. SBG Global have the Kansas City Chiefs at +4000 odds to win the 2008 Super Bowl XLII:
Workhorse RB Larry Johnson will again shoulder the load this season for the Chiefs offense. Johnson is a big bruiser who runs angry. Larry knows has excellent field has an extra gear in the open field vision in addition to having an extra gear in the open field. Priest Holmes is back for another year and it will be interesting to see what he has left. Priest at his best, is very patient and sets up blockers well. Gaining extra yards this year will be a challenge for the RB's behind a patchwork Offensive Line. The loss of key components to the Cheifs line has left them vulnerable.
Herm Edwards D improved to 16th in the NFL last year by running a tight cover 2 system out of the 4-3. Occasionally Edwards will add a wrinkle and use the 3-4 set to aggresively blitz with his Linebackers. One of the weaknesses the Chiefs D ran into last year was a lack of an inside pass rush. DE Jared Allen will be suspended for the first 4 games of the season and that will hurt the D-Line early. DE Tamba Haliis is a rising player who is equally effective defending the run or pass. The Linebackers are a diverse group with fast playmakers. OLB Derrick Johnson has great instincts and is a sure tackler. OLB Donnie Edwards was brought back to K.C in the offseason, adding his intensity and intangibles to an already solid linebacking core.
