Okay, is it me, or did we get robbed last week? Clearly, the Baltimore Ravens were the pick against the Cleveland Browns. How do you win by one point against a team with no offensive line, a sub par defense, no running game and an erratic quarterback? The answer is the Ravens were looking ahead to this week’s matchup at home versus the Chargers. I know, our under .500 record doesn’t look good right now. But, keep in mind we started slowly last year as well and ended up in the black. Let’s take a look at this week’s games.
San Diego -2.5 @ Baltimore The Chargers are coming off a bye week and at 2-0, there are lofty expectations for their 2006 campaign. However, have you seen the opponents for those two wins? Combined, Oakland and Tennessee have a whopping ZERO wins! First year starting QB Philip Rivers has never faced a defense like the one Baltimore will throw at him this Sunday.

Conversely, the 3-0 Ravens are coming off their worst outing of the season. Sure, they won the game, but it was a one-point win versus a terrible Browns club. The pressure is on Steve McNair and Jamal Lewis to step up their games and I believe they will do enough here to squeak out a win. If Ray Lewis can match Shawn Merriman in this game, Baltimore will be ok.Take the Ravens and the points. Detroit +6 @ St. Louis Yes, Detroit just lost to Green Bay, Green Bay! But, let’s look at the facts. A) There are always a couple of upsets in the NFL every week (see Denver and New Orleans in Week 3). B) The Lions hung in with the defending NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks and lost by three. C) St. Louis’ two wins were suspect (a botched Arizona snap last week and they failed to score a touchdown in their Week 1 win). D) Jon Kitna is playing very well at quarterback for the Lions. E) Detroit Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz returns to St. Louis to face his old team looking for revenge.
You add up all of these factors and six points just seems like too many points to us. The Rams are inconsistent on both sides of the ball and we believe they’re only marginally better than the Lions. I smell a good underdog pick here, what about you?Take the points and the Lions.
Jacksonville -3 @ Washington Had the Redskins not played a porous Texans team in Week 3, this line would be pushing a touchdown! Mark Brunell is coming off his best game of the season, but that wasn’t hard to do if you saw his first two 2006 performances. Washington has not faced a defense the likes of the Jaguars as of yet and we believe they simply won’t be able to score enough.
As for the Jags? Sloppy play by Byron Leftwich in the second half handed the game to the Colts in Week 3. Pity. Jacksonville was good enough to beat Indianapolis. Matt Jones was held in check in Week 3 and we don’t see that happening very often the rest of the way. When you’re six-foot six and you can run a 4.3, 40, you know you can dominate. And let’s not forget about the emergence of rookie RB Maurice Jones-Drew. The kid can play.Lay the points and take the Jags.
Last Week: 1-2 Overall: 4-5
