New York Giants: 25 to 1 to win the NFC Championship

New York Giants: 25 to 1 to win the NFC ChampionshipAs if the New York Giants did not need any more bad news this season, the team was told that defensive end Michael Strahan will miss the last game of the season and any playoff games after aggravating his sprained right foot in the loss to the New Orleans Saints this past Sunday.

“That one really hurt,” Head Coach Tom Coughlin said after the loss. “Obviously we didn’t do anything in the second half to help ourselves. Offensively, we did nothing, and I felt bad that our defense was on the field for so long without any help."

Team doctors say he could even need surgery in the off season.  Strahan holds the NFL single season record for sacks with 22 1/2 and has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times.  His 132 1/2 sacks ties him with Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor for the team's all-time lead.

This could not have come at a worse time.  The New York Giants need a win and some help to secure a playoff spot.  The Giants are anywhere from a –1 to –2.5 point favorite when they play the Washington Redskins in the final game of the season at FedEx Field on Saturday December 30th, 2006 at 8:00 PM.
